Maria raised both her eyebrows. "That's the word Mom uses when she really means 'terrible.' Kind of like when she says someone has 'interesting opinions' or 'a unique perspective.'" Why couldn't adults just say what they meant all the time? It wasn't as if she couldn't figure it out.
